One more available activity to add to the weekend: Sagebrush Theatre is producing "Red, White and Tuna" July 1, 2, 8 & 9 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. It's a hilarious show set at the all-class reunion of the town of Tuna, Texas. The show has two cast members (David Miner and Kirk Young) who play 20 characters. Add the show to your weekend plans!
So glad to see the EHS All-Alumni Reunion Weekend is going to continue! My hat is off to the people who have stepped forward.
My Mom, Patsy Madia, and her 1960 classmate, Vicki Matthews Petersen, had the idea to stage this annual event for the first time back in 1990. The former Red Devil Cheerleaders stuck with it and provided their leadership for 21 years. They had seen the crowds dwindle, especially in the past few years, and decided to stick it a few years longer than originally anticipated, to make their 50th Class Reunion an extra special and fun affair, which it truly was. Many people have assisted the EHS Alumni Society, as it was known, throughout the years, and at the risk of leaving anyone out, I will not attempt to list them here, but would like to thank each and everyone who has taken part.
I figured we were done and maybe another group of volunteers would possibly pick up the event staged annually on the weekend nearest the 4th of July in a few years. Well, that came sooner than later and I'm thankful they did. Most of the events for all EHS Alumni will stay the same, although it looks like golf will be for free-form, without being a tournament, and the Friday night Ice-Breaker & Mixer will not exclude the 5 star finger foods and a hired band, so the $25 per person fee will go by the wayside, as well.
I will assist the new organization any way I can, and I know they'd really like to see you, "Come Home for the Weekend," and that individual classes will continue to hold their class reunions on the weekend nearest the 4th of July. Evanston is a fantastic place to celebrate our Nation's independence and always has been. In addition to the Alumni fun, the City of Evanston sponsored "Fresh Air, Freedom & Fun Festival will be taking place on Saturday and Hamblin Park. I'll paste in the details (if it'll work on this comment box) or post a link to those activities. Hope to see you back in Evanston!
